Back to School Parking Information
The parking on the north end of Casselton will continue to be a challenge especially with the increased traffic as the school year begins. The residents, students, faculty and parents are asked to keep in mind the laws regarding parking.
ND Century Code 39-10-49 says, No person may stop, stand or park a vehicle…in any of the following places:
1. On a sidewalk
2. In front of a public or private driveway
4. Within 10 feet of a fire hydrant
6. Within ten feet of a crosswalk at an intersection
7. Within 15 feet upon the approach to any stop sign
City of Casselton parking ordinance #289 (see casselton.com for a complete version) includes all of the above and also prohibits parking in the traveled portion of any alleyway.
If resident mailboxes are blocked, the United States Postal Service will not deliver mail. Please be courteous to residents and do not park your vehicle in such a way that obstructs the delivery of mail.
And it’s only the end of August, but the Winter Parking Rules go into effect October 1st of each year until April 15th of the following year. For the north area of town pay particular attention to the following:
It shall be unlawful for any person to park any vehicle or trailer on any north-south avenue between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, or on any east-west street between the
hours of 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
No Parking has been imposed on the west side of 9th Ave N because of narrow streets. Signs have been posted. And also No Parking on the north side of 5th St N from Langer to 9th Ave N because of bus parking and construction zone.
For some laws fines are imposed and for others the vehicle can be towed.
Most importantly BE CAREFUL! Slow down (School zone speed has been decreased to 15 mph and parking lot speed is 10 mph). Watch for children. There will be a mass amount of vehicles on side streets so be careful at intersections and passing oncoming traffic. Please be mindful of your driving so we can have a safe, damage free and accident free school year.
