Sales Tax Vote March 21
The Casselton city residents will be voting on March 21, 2017 in the city auditorium at 702 1st Street North 7:00 am – 8:00 pm to decide whether to increase the city sales tax by 1% and dedicate those funds to the construction of a Wellness Center. An absentee ballot can be received from the Cass County Auditor as shown below. The proposed ordinance and the ballot question were created shortly after the council decided to give the public the option to help with funding the school expansion with sales tax funds which is why they use the words Community Center. After the wording went to the county for the vote it was discovered that the only way sales tax funds could be used to assist in funding the project was to dedicate the sales tax revenues to the construction of a building owned by the Park District (the Wellness Center).
The official wording of the ordinance, ballot, agreement between the city and park district and agreements between the park district and the school district can be read here. A public information meeting will also be held in the Media Center at Central Cass School on Thursday, March 16th at 7:00pm.
All agreements posted here are proposed drafts only and have not yet been approved by the Casselton Park District, Central Cass School Board, or Casselton City Council.
